Frequently Asked Questions ( FAQ )

MGI VideoWave
1.

Q: Can the Personal Cinema AV/Tuner Box capture digital video and audio from IEEE1394 (i-Link or FireWire) or USB devices?

A: No, the Personal Cinema AV/Tuner Box is designed to capture analog video and audio from camcorders, TV tuners, and VCRs only. Users must use a separate IEEE1394 interface to capture digital video and audio from IEEE1394 devices. The computer's USB ports should be used to capture digital video and audio from USB devices.

2.

Q: What are the major differences between VideoWave 4.0SE and WinDVR?

A:

Functions WinDVR VideoWave 4.0SE
Real-time video capturing MPEG-1 and 2 AVI
Timeshifting playback Yes No
Linear and non-linear video and audio editing No Yes
Full screen mode Yes No

3.
Q: Are both VideoWave and WinDVR capable of capturing analog video from DVD Players?

A: In accordance with DVD Forum specifications, VideoWave, WinDVR and Compro PVR prohibit users from recording DVD video streams from the DVD player analog output if the DVD title uses Macrovision anti-copy protection.

4.
Q: What should I do if VideoWave cannot smoothly capture video and audio?

A: There are many possible causes of rough capture quality.

  1. A hard disk that does not support DMA.
  2. A hard disk that supports DMA transfer mode, but where the DMA mode is not enabled.
  3. Low system performance: high resolution (high data rate) capture combined with low CPU performance and small hard disk capacity.
  4. Unstable AGP or chipset driver.

Solutions:

Verify that your hard disk supports DMA transfer and that DMA mode is enabled. Try different resolution settings until VideoWave can smoothly capture video and audio. Lower resolution results in a lower data rate, but may also reduce video quality. Also, download an install updated motherboard chipset and AGP drivers.

If the above solutions does not result in smoother video capture, you may need to upgrade your PC to improve performance, e.g., by installing more memory, a faster CPU, or a larger hard disk with ULTRA ATA66/100 support.

5.
Q: Why does WinDVR not function properly while VideoWave is running?

A: WinDVR and VideoWave require access to some system software components that cannot be shared. Therefore you should not run WinDVR, VideoWave, or Compro PVR at the same time.
